Olive Oil’s Healthful Benefits
As a high-energy food olive oil has many health benefits and healing properties. In addition it can be used to soften the skin.
The use dates all the way back to biblical times. It was a tradition to “anoint people with oil” during religious ceremonies. Many passages in the Bible speak of olives, their trees, the oils and their healing properties.
Olive oil is the only oil that is a natural juice pressed from the fruit preserving all the vitamins, taste, aroma and properties within.
Studies have shown that the high amounts of monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acids), found in olive oil, do not have cholesterol which offers protection against heart attacks and stroke. Using olive oil in place of animal fats, such as butter and shortening, helps to lower blood LDL (bad) cholesterol levels while raising the HDL (good) cholesterol levels.
A recent study showed that four to five tablespoons of olive oil daily significantly improved the blood profile of heart attack patients.
Consider using olive oil like any other oil. Using it to replace butter or margarine when sautéing vegetables can be a healthy alternative.
Not only is olive oil healthy for your heart, but evidence shows that it helps to fight off “free radicals” in the body. Free radicals cause damage to the cells which can lead to cancer.
In addition, this wonderful healthy oil helps to protect against stomach ulcers and coats the intestines to aid in the passage of food. This, of course, helps to prevent constipation. Start using it gradually since it does have a slight laxative effect.
Now, let’s take a look at some Home Remedies that olive oil can be used for:
