Lemon Juice: A Natural Cleaner and Healthy Aid

Natural and safe, this is one of the best items to keep around the house for cleaning and for many health issues. Go green with clean and your health!

Now-a-days people are looking for ways to clean without toxic chemicals and harsh fumes. Lemon juice fills the bill, because it is one of natures best kept secrets. It's not just for flavoring tea (which is good) or seasoning fish, but is a great all purpose cleaner!

Whether it's fresh squeezed or out of the bottle there's a lot you can do with it. You will be surprised to find out what it can do for your laundry, counter tops, and appliances along many other uses for your health!

Let's look at some of the many uses of lemon juice:

  • Microwave cleanup-Mix 1 cup of water and and 1 cup of lemon juice in a bowl and microwave for 1-3 minutes. Remove the cup and wipe out the microwave. The steam loosens the spills and the juice dissolves the grease. Wipe clean with a cloth. Your microwave will be clean and smell great.

  • Refridgerator-Set two lemon halves in the fridge to remove odors and give a fresh clean smell.

  • Counter tops-Squeeze the juice from a lemon then use half lemon as a scrubber. The juice will remove stubborn stains while leaving a fresh scent.

  • Deter Ants-Pour a small amount in cracks, crevices or any place that you see ants coming through. This is a great deterrent.

  • Cutting board-Usually wood boards, when cut, hold germs. Rubbing lemon juice all over the board, then letting it sit overnight will kill any bacteria that is left.

  • Grease Power-Adding a tablespoon to your dish water with the soap will help cut grease when washing dishes. It can be added to liquid dishwasher detergent to help boost it's cleaning power, also.

    Straight juice can be an excellent degreaser for you oven and stove, also.

  • Limescale-Rub half of a lemon to remove limescale from faucets; rinse thoroughly.

  • Garbage disposals-Chop up half a lemon in the disposal to give it a fresh, clean smell. The juice can be heated and mixed with baking soda and poured down the drain to clean it out.

  • Coffee/Tea Pots-Sprinkle salt inside the pot and use a half of lemon to scrub out stains. If you don't have a lemon you can pour a little juice with the salt, to make a paste, and wipe clean with a dishcloth. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. Your pot will be sparkling clean and fresh smelling!

  • Pots and Pans-Swish some juice around in the bottom of your pots and pans and watch them come clean as a whistle. It's also great to use a little to scrub the outside bottom to remove any burn marks. You may want to add some salt to help with scrubbing power.

  • Air Freshener-Add equal parts of water and juice in a mist spray bottle. Spritz around your house for a fresh clean smell without irritating your sinuses.

  • Toilet Bowl-Mixing 1 cup of lemon juice with borax make for an excellent cleaner and sanitizer for your toilet.





  • Shiny Hair-To make your hair extra shiny rinse it with lemon juice. The acid in the juice helps remove the build-up left from shampoos. You can also spritz it on your hair and go out in the sun for a while to bring forth the natural highlights.

  • Furniture Polish- Mix two parts olive oil and one part lemon juice to make a perfect. furniture polish.

  • Laundry Stains-Mix equal parts of lemon juice and white vinegar in a small bowl. Immerse the stained part of garment in the solution for 30 minutes to an hour (depending on depth of the stain). Wash as normal.

  • Bleaching agent-Add a half cup to hot water to soak soiled white socks for overnight. Wash as usual with detergent and solution.

  • Other Stains-Stains on white clothes can be removed by mixing a paste of lemon juice and cream of tarter. Apply to the stain and set out in the sun to soak. The stain should release and the fabric will be brighter. Wash as usual.

  • Cough & Sore Throat -Mix two teaspoons of lemon juice and one half teaspoon of honey, then swallow. This should soothe your throat and help ease your cough.
