Honey For Your Health

As natural syrup, honey is full of health benefits. It contains many vitamins, minerals, amino acids and varying levels of antioxidants which fight off "free radicals" within your body. The darker in color the more antioxidants it contains, also.

Some "free radicals" are formed during normal metabolism, but others are formed when weak cells split.

Antioxidants neutralize the "free radicals" and act as scavengers helping to prevent cell damage that could lead to diseases such as cancer.

Honey, because of its antibacterial and antifungal properties helps disinfect and aids in the healing of burns, wounds and scrapes.

It also can be used to enhance the beauty of skin and hair. Because of all the vitamins and minerals, when used as a face mask it nourishes, replenishes and rejuvenates the skin. Fine wrinkles can be reduced or even eliminated with an added bonus of moisturizing with honey!

Seasonal allergy sufferers can greatly benefit from the use of honey. Eating brands that come from their local area can help control the allergy reactions from pollen. This is because the bees in the area use the pollen from the local plants in which the honey is made from.

Now, let’s look at some Home Remedies you can use honey with:

  • As a moisturizer mix 1 teaspoon with 1 tsp of olive oil and ½ tsp of lemon juice. Apply to dry areas then wash off after 15 minutes.

  • For a facial scrub mix with ground almonds.

  • As a firming mask whisk 1 tablespoon with 1 egg white, 1 tsp of glycerin an ¼ cup of flour. Smooth on face, leave for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

  • For a mouthwash, mix 1 tablespoon with 1 cup of warm water. Because of its antibacterial properties germs will be killed while cleaning teeth and blocking growth of oral bacteria.

  • For chapped lips or acne apply on affected areas so the antibacterial properties can work.

  • To make your hair shine mix 1 tsp into 4 cups of warm water. (For blondes add juice from 1 lemon)
  • For an upset stomach mix 1 tsp with the juice of ½ of lemon in hot water. Let cool enough to drink.

  • For coughs mix 6 oz of honey, 2 oz of glycerin and juice from 2 lemons. Take 2-4 tablespoons as needed. This can be saved for a few days. This mixture coats & soothes the throat while the antibiotic properties help in healing.

  • With sore throats swallow 1 tsp of honey gently (to let coat) . This helps to ease the pain of a red, raw throat.

  • For digestion problems mix 1 part with 1 part apple cider vinegar in water. This will help maintain a healthy digestive system while combating constipation.

  • With Migraines dissolve 1 tablespoon in ½ glass of water when at the onset. Repeat after 20 minutes if necessary.

  • For stress use 1 part to 4 parts water; it will calm & stabilize.

As an energy booster you can use it to replace sugars, which means 40% less caloric intake than with the same amount of sugar. This is great for someone watching their weight!

Also, while you’re using it to lower your calorie intake you will also slow the oxidation of LDL cholesterol (bad kind) which causes hardening of the arteries. Honey is for your health!
