Cleaning The Bathroom Is One of The Most Dreaded Chores For Me!
Yuk…How about you? The toilet is dirty, the shower is scummy, the sink is gross… how can this be avoided? Well, it can’t! But, what you can do is use home remedies to clean and sanitize the bathroom in a snap!
By using my home remedies you will save time, money and be protecting your family from the effects of harmful chemicals.
Most of the cleaners and disinfectants that we buy at our local discount store release chemicals in the air that can cause breathing problems such as asthma. They also can irritate the sinuses, which can lead to an infection, plus a rash (a form of contact irritant eczema) can develop on the skin from the use.
Now, let’s take a look at those Home Remedies that you can use to help clean your bathroom below:
- One of the BEST disinfecting sprays that you can use is white vinegar and 3% hydrogen peroxide. Pour in separate, clean spray bottles (which can be purchased at the dollar store). Spray one then the other; wipe clean. It can be used on any surface in your bathroom! This is, by far, better than any disinfectant you can buy in the store.
- Sprinkle baking soda (a natural deodorizer) around your wet tub. It will make a paste then you can scrub it clean naturally. Rinse with a mixture of vinegar (a natural disinfectant) and water or the vinegar and
peroxide
sprays for extra disinfecting.
- To help clean rings in the tub or sink make a paste of cream of tarter and hydrogen peroxide. Let the paste stay on the ring for an hour then scrub lightly.
- Baking soda can also be used in the sink and the inside of the toilet bowl. Scrub it as usual. I also rinse the baking soda out my sink with the vinegar and peroxide sprays. I like knowing that it is really disinfected!
- You can use seltzer tablets to clean the toilet bowl. Drop 2 tablets in the bowl, wait a few minutes then flush. The toilet will sparkle!
Using bleach (it's a chemical, though) in the bowl always works well to clean and sanitize. Let it sit about 15 minutes then scrub clean.
- To remove rust from from sinks, tubs and toilets mix lemon juice and salt (click for many uses) then scrub with a toothbrush around small, hard to reach crevaces.
- Spray club soda on mirrors...it is cheaper and a much better shine than the leading glass cleaner!
- For mildew problems use a a bleach and water mixture; spray on mildew and let set a few minutes. Take an old toothbrush, for those small crevaces, to scrub away mildew from grout.
Also, try using a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle to spray the shower stall. Vinegar causes soap scum to lift.
To prevent buildup of mildew and soap scum squeegee the walls and doors of the shower. Use an old towel to dry the handles, spigot and in the corners.
- Another tip to prevent soap scum and mildew build up in your tile shower is to use car wax. Clean shower thouroughly first then rub a coat of car wax all over the tile. Be sure to not get it on the floor; it will be slippery! This will repel water and prevent mildew.
One of the very best ways that you can help to keep the bathroom clean is by staying on top of the dirt and preventing the buildup of germs and mildew. By installing an air purifier you can rid your house of many allergens, pollutants and the build up of mold and mildew.
